The goal of this partnership is to shorten the path from choosing a powder to running it reliably on the shop floor. Materials and Validation Work The initial focus covers cobalt chrome, Ti-6Al-4V, and 17-4 stainless steel, with nickel-based superalloys and copper-nickel alloys expected to join the program as it grows. The two companies are examining how each powder behaves during processing, how consistent the resulting builds are, and how the finished material performs, with the intent of handing customers a set of proven starting parameters and technical data rather than leaving them to work that out from scratch. Continuum, which makes its powders through its Greyhound M2P (melt to powder) recycling platform, pointed to the difficulty customers face in adopting new materials with confidence as a central obstacle to broader AM uptake. “By working closely with Mastrex from the beginning, we’re helping create a more seamless path from material selection and process development to successful production,” said Jon Cozens, CEO of Continuum Powders. “Ultimately, our shared goal is to give customers greater confidence in the complete manufacturing solution, not just the powder.” Mastrex, which pairs its LPBF hardware with parameter development, application support, installation, and training, said the collaboration reflects its customers’ needs. “Customers are looking for complete manufacturing solutions, not disconnected pieces of the process,” said Ilay Fridland, Partner at Mastrex. “Collaborating closely with Continuum allows us to optimize materials alongside our LPBF platforms, helping customers adopt new applications with greater confidence while reducing development effort.” As more materials move through validation and qualification, Continuum and Mastrex plan to publish updates, application data, and customer results from the program.
