GKN Aerospace has presented its uncrewed aerial vehicle demonstrator in public for the first time, roughly nine months after taking on a development program with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). The display at The Armed Forces Air Venture 2026 paired a full-scale UAV mock-up with the turbojet engine being built for the aircraft. The event formed part of the Swedish Air Force’s centenary. FMV placed the contract in November 2025, setting an 18-month target for a clean-sheet demonstrator and a dedicated engine designed for it. “One year ago, this was an idea and an ambition. Today, we are unveiling the first tangible result of that work. That achievement reflects close collaboration with FMV, the “Swedish Armed Forces and the combined expertise of teams across GKN Aerospace,” said Joakim Andersson, President Engines at GKN Aerospace. The program covered the turbojet engine, the airframe and onboard systems, drawing propulsion, aerostructures and systems integration work from GKN Aerospace sites in Sweden, the Netherlands and the U.K. The demonstrator was built as a flexible platform for testing and evaluation, intended to support work on future uncrewed aviation technologies and to give its engineering teams experience in developing, integrating and manufacturing complex aerospace systems on compressed schedules. “This milestone demonstrates what can be achieved when engineering, manufacturing and customer teams work towards a common goal. The experience gained will be valuable as the program moves into its next phase,” said Sara Eklöf, Senior Vice President Government Solutions at GKN Aerospace. Development and testing continue as the program moves into its next phase, with preparations underway for flight-test activities. Tags future Joseph Caron-Dawe August 26, 2026 1 minute read
