More data per pass The new scanner uses an expanded laser setup that projects 54 lines in ultra-fast scanning mode and 17 parallel lines in hyperfine mode, capturing up to 5.8 million points per second, more than double the rate of its predecessor. Operators can switch between three scanning modes: ultra-fast for covering large surfaces quickly, hyperfine parallel scanning for fine detail, and a single-laser mode suited to deep holes and other hard-to-reach features. Accuracy remains rated at 0.02 mm, matching the original Point, with results verified in an ISO-certified lab and compliant with the VDI/VDE 2634 and JJF 1951 metrology standards. “Artec Point set a high bar for accessible, certified metrology. Point II raises it — more data in every pass, greater detail, and faster scans, with the same accuracy professionals have come to rely on,” said Art Yukhin, president and CEO of Artec 3D. Design and software The scanner is palm-sized and designed for one-handed operation, including tilting into confined spaces. It carries an IP50 dust-protection rating and is built for operation between -10°C and 40°C, targeting use in manufacturing, mold-making, energy, and heavy industry settings. Point II integrates with Artec 3D’s Artec Studio processing software and can be combined with other Artec 3D scanners within a single project, covering workflows from reverse engineering to quality inspection. Building on a proven scanner lineup Point II follows a pattern Artec 3D has used before: upgrading the hardware inside an existing scanner rather than introducing a new model line. The company is positioning Point II as a direct replacement for Point, with the accuracy, price, and Artec Studio workflow held constant while the laser configuration is upgraded for more data capture per scan. The Micro II followed the same approach in 2023, doubling the accuracy of the original Micro desktop scanner to 5 microns while keeping the same automated, one-click workflow its users already relied on. As with Point II, the gains came from hardware upgrades rather than a change in how the scanner is used.
