Lohia Aerospace Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Massivit 3D Printing Technologies to install the first commercial large-format additive manufacturing platform for composite tooling in India. The agreement, structured as a joint manufacturing alliance, brings Massivit’s large-scale 3D printer to Lohia’s facility in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, to produce molds and manufacturing tools for aerospace and other composite industries. Composite manufacturing in India has relied heavily on manual tooling and production processes. Massivit’s technology is expected to cut tooling lead times by up to 90%, producing complete sets of composite tools in days rather than weeks. Each large format printer can produce one to two complete tool sets a day, priced at approximately USD 10,000 to 20,000 per tool, and Lohia plans to bring 8 to 10 printers online, creating an estimated 60 to 100 skilled jobs, as each unit requires a dedicated team of 8 to 10 people. Lohia Aerospace will invest USD 8 million to 10 million over the next one to two years to scale the project, supporting an expansion of its Kanpur operations that will add 250,000 square feet of production space alongside its existing 80,000-square-foot facility. Large-format additive tooling is not yet established in India, and what little is used today is imported, so the alliance is intended to replace imported tooling with domestic production, with a goal of full import substitution over time. “In a meaningful step forward for advanced manufacturing in India, we are excited to combine Massivit’s pioneering additive manufacturing technology with Lohia Aerospace’s established composite manufacturing and engineering capabilities,” Lohia Aerospace said. “This collaboration will enable our partners and customers to benefit from shorter lead times, lower costs, improved quality and faster production scale-up.” “We are thrilled to partner with Lohia to deliver our RapidWings platform to India’s fast-growing defense market,” said Ziki Kuly, Chief Business Officer at Massivit. “The synergies here are significant for scaling local production of mission-critical requirements.
